The mission
This is a family mission road trip — not a vacation, and not a media exchange. Annalyse and Leon are driving their family, Hudson and Beckham along, from the southernmost point in the U.S. (Key West) to the northernmost point and back home to St. Petersburg. Roughly seventeen chapters, each one pairing a local mission partner — a conservation group, a cleanup effort, a community-service organization — with a personal family story and experience at that stop.
Every partnership is an invitation to be part of something worth remembering — not a request for free stays in exchange for posts.
Where it started
Our family has spent at least two weeks in the Florida Keys almost every summer since Annalyse was a baby — a tradition out of a family of nine siblings raised on Jimmy Buffett music and trivia. Annalyse later wrote “7 Mile Summer,” a song about growing up spending summers down there, which is exactly why Key West and the Lower Keys open the route.
The trip grew out of an honest turning point: two parents feeling like they were losing pieces of the life they wanted underneath work, responsibilities, and exhaustion — and deciding to combine their love of adventure with their love of being useful to other people, instead of choosing one over the other.
The route
